Over the summer, I signed up to be a Julep Maven. For those of you who don’t know what it is, it works sort of like Birchbox or Ipsy. You pay a certain amount each month (in the case of Julep, it’s 19.99), and then send you products that, when purchased separately, would cost a lot more. Julep is geared more towards lovers of nail polish (they typically send you two colors a month, along with another beauty product), which is probably why this is the first box I’ve opted to get since my first one back in July. I’m probably the worst anyone can be at painting my own nails, so while I like the way it looks, it’s just not something I take the time to do that often.
So why did I opt to get this month’s? For one, I really liked the colors they offered in the “Classic with a Twist” box. My obsession with burgundy runs deep, so I loved the color “Anisa.” I also really like neutrals for my fingers, so the “Winona” appealed to me too (it’s more of like a griege). I also liked the Kajal eyeliner, which is black on one end and brown on the other, and comes with a sharpener.
(See? I’m REALLY bad at painting my nails).
I did Anisa on my toes and Winona on my hands. Overall, I’m happy with how the colors turned out. I only did one coat of each, although my toes probably could have used another.
As for the eyeliner, it’s definitely good. Is it the eyeliner to end all eyeliners? Not for me. Mostly because I’m bad at doing makeup, I’m still trying to figure out how to use the two colors together, but I like having them both.
I’m definitely glad I bought this box, but I’m still not sold on keeping my Julep Maven status. The only thing that keeps me around is knowing I can skip monthly boxes. I don’t need two new polishes every month.
Did you get one of Julep’s October boxes? What did you think?
